Back In 2002, the European Parliament decided that manufacturers forcing car owners to use main dealers for service in order to keep the warranty was unfair. After all, if you had bought a brand new house, you wouldn’t be too happy if you were forced to use the original builder to decorate every time you put up some wallpaper! You have a choice without affecting your warranty and the resale value of your vehicle.
This law is known as ‘Block Exemption’ and it means that manufacturers must ensure that service information and scheduling is available to all garages. It allows you the car owner to make a choice where they have their car or van serviced.
